As the analogy goes, not one sparrow isn't exactly 'hatchling' anymore, but 'fledgling' might still be appropriate! Here's a bit more information about how we came to be and a basic layout of our website and community:

not one sparrow was launched in May, 2008 to help the Christian community honor its calling to be faithful stewards of God's creatures. We know animal welfare and advocacy issues often seem off the map, even invalid or extreme, to many evangelical and confessional Christians. But sadly, as a result, we've largely abandoned our God-given responsibilties to the animal kingdom.
Ben DeVries, not one sparrow's founder, faced similar reservations when animal concerns began to tug on his own heart. Ben wrote his seminary MA project on a Christian foundation for animal welfare to address some of those questions, and to lay the groundwork for not one sparrow. Coming from the evangelical tradition, he wanted especially to help his own community and other confessional Christians better understand and get involved in issues related to animal appreciation as well as suffering.
Speaking of which, you can find out more about the animals and issues we care about in our causes section, and through our regularly updated blog. There you'll find playful and more serious information on pets, wildlife and farmed animals, and how our society treats them for better and for worse. We sincerely hope that not one sparrow will help stimulate your appreciation for animals, and that you'll be encouraged to find your own niche in protecting and caring for them.
We also hope you'll be able to connect with not one sparrow and some of the friendships we're forming, including through our social pages. We're only just getting started, and have much left to do to make an impact for God's creatures. But we try to remember that God is most interested in faithfulness, and we're grateful for all He has done to get not one sparrow off the ground and keep us going to this point. We also couldn't have made it without everyone who's played such an indispensable role in making our work and this site possible, including our beautiful logos pictured above.
We hope very much you'll join us!
