about us

As our mission says, not one sparrow is dedicated to being a voice for animals from and to the Christian community.  We want to represent God’s concern for animals and the responsibility he’s given all of us to care for them.  We hope to be a new model for the Church by taking up our calling to be caretakers of all creatures, for the sake of our own response to the gospel and to lend our momentum to the broader animal advocacy cause.  At the same time not one sparrow wants to be a witness to that cause of a distinctly Christian concern for animals (see our motivation for more, or the interview below).

not one sparrow was launched in May, 2008 by myself, Ben DeVries, after I completed my capstone project on a Christian foundation for animal welfare at seminary (see my personal page for more).  I come out of the evangelical tradition and want to help my community take up a concern for animals which it has almost completely abandoned.  But the body of Christ is larger than just evangelicalism, and my sincere hope is that not one sparrow will be a part of the broader community of Christian orthodoxy, as well as be available to compare notes with anyone in the animal advocacy movement, Christian or otherwise.

Our causes section has information on a number of important and practical issues related to animal welfare and advocacy, and please see connect to contact me and keep in touch with not one sparrow updates, as well as find out how you might be able to get involved.  I realize a little more all the time I'm not going to be able to do this on my own.  Speaking of which, please visit our credits page to see the people who helped get not one sparrow's website off the ground.  Regardless, thank you for taking the time to get to know what we're about.
