As far as avian analogies go, not one sparrow isn't a 'hatchling' anymore, but 'fledgling' might still be appropriate!  Here's some information about how we came to be, and a basic introduction to our website and community:

not one sparrow was launched in May, 2008 to help the Christian community honor its calling to be faithful stewards of God's creatures.  We know animal welfare and advocacy issues often seem off the map, even invalid or extreme, to many in our home communities of faith.  But sadly, as a result, we've largely abandoned our God-given responsibilities to the animal kingdom.

Ben DeVries, not one sparrow's founder, faced similar reservations when animal concerns began to tug on his own heart a few years back.  Ben wrote his seminary MA project on a biblically faithful foundation for animal welfare to address some of those questions, and to lay the groundwork for not one sparrow.  As part of the evangelical tradition, he wanted especially to help his own community and other brothers and sisters in Christ better understand and get involved in causes of animal appreciation and caretaking.

Speaking of which, you can find out more about the animals and issues we care about in our causes section, and through our regularly updated blog.  There you'll find both serious and more lighthearted posts on pets, wildlife and farmed animals, and how our society relates to them for better and for worse.  We sincerely hope that not one sparrow will play a part in stimulating your own appreciation for God's creatures, and that you'll be encouraged to find your niche in helping to protect and care for them.  Perhaps you'll even have a chance to connect with us and the friendships we're forming, including through our community and social pages.

There is much left to do on behalf of God's creatures, but we hope to remember that God is most interested in faithfulness, especially His faithfulness, in light of our own limitations.  However plodding or intermittent the going may have been, we're grateful for all God and gracious friends have done to keep us afloat to this point.  We couldn't have made this far it without each of you who have played an indispensable role in making not one sparrow possible (including the beautiful logos designed above)  Ben in particular is grateful for the grace and patience which has been shown him through his own fluctuating levels of activity on behalf of not one sparrow, including the recent much quieter season.
