a deeply christian concern for animals

The first post is up at Jason Clark's UK blog Deep Church, beginning a week long discussion on faith and our relationship to animals.  Please see our recent post "Blogging Across the Pond" for more on how this opportunity graciously came about, and last year's series of posts. And do take a look at "What is Deep Church?", for more on Jason and the thought behind his site.

Nancy Janisch will be joining the discussion tomorrow, but our first post is humbly submitted by yours truly and titled "A Deeply Christian Concern for Animals."  Here's a preview:

Most foundationally, a deep church ethos calls us to place focal emphasis on the narrative trajectory which God has established throughout Scripture and flowing from it ...  And this trajectory is distinctively redemptive, not just for the “frozen chosen,” as those heading the call to social justice have faithfully reminded us, but for all humanity; and not just for humanity, as the creation care community has expanded our horizons of late, but for all creation and its creatures.  But sadly, this last category of God’s creative and redemptive work continues to be the most neglected.

(Many thanks again to Jason Clark for inviting us back, and for use of the Deep Church image (copyright); and thanks also to Elizabeth Chapin for helping moderate the week.)
