Jimmy Stewart's tribute to Beau

Have you seen Jimmy Stewart's tribute to his beloved dog Beau, which he read on Johnny Carson's show in 1981?  It must have been soon after Beau passed, and it's one of the more touching moments you'll ever witness, let alone on late night tv:

A sincere thanks to Mary Fitzgerald, who lost her own beloved Riley (below) not long ago, for passing it along.

Thanks for posting that link to Jimmy Stewart. As the labrador we rescued a few years ago becomes ill, and closer to the end of his life, we are already fearing his absence. We'll need to write our own poem now I think, to celebrate his presence with us.

Jason, thank you very much for the note, and please do keep me posted on how your lab, and your family, is doing - Ben

What a touching poem, Ben, as only Jimmy Stewart could write and read it. Dad and I both had tears in our eyes. Thanks for a sweet ending to the day.

P.S. I just remembered that, as a teenaged girl, I wrote a poem about our dog, Gini, after she died. It's been many years since I thought of it....

Thanks, mom, and I wonder if you'll ever bump into that poem you wrote about Gini. Please let me know if you do - love, Ben
