prayer for the oil spill

Last week we posted on the catastrophic and ever-mounting consequences of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, for human lives already lost and yet to be affected, as well as entire ecosystems and countless animals.  It's a disaster of overwhelming proportions, and it seems there's very little most of us can do, except pray.  But our friends Robin Bradley Hansel and Scott Williams are faithfully reminding us that prayer is not a fallback or lesser option, but a vital calling, especially when it seems we have no other hope.

Robin of Labyrinth Wellness has set up an OceanPrayer Facebook page as well as a Twitter feed and thread (#OceanPrayer) dedicated to praying for the oil spill.  She writes on Twitter, "If you have a special prayer for the Ocean, please share it here.  Let's join our voices for all the marine life in need of healing and comfort."

And Scott of Creation Hope just launched Oil Spill Prayer, a site which "seeks to unite Christians and churches around the world in prayer about the Gulf Coast Oil Spill."  Scott wrote yesterday on Creation Hope's blog:

We have recently posted our own prayer about the crisis.  However, with some prompting from you, our readers, we have decided to take this to the next level.

Our goal is to enlist the prayers of individuals, churches, organizations, business, schools, and more in the Gulf, across the US, and around the world.  We believe that our God is more than able to make a difference in the face of this awful disaster.

Oil Spill Prayer is a place where you can commit to praying and share your prayers with others.  Please join with Christians along the gulf coast and around the world as we pray that God act in the midst of tragedy.

We hope that you will all take a moment, visit the Oil Spill Prayer website, and make a commitment to pray.

You can also find Oil Spill Prayer on Facebook and Twitter.  Let's join with Robin and Scott, and many others in prayer for the oil spill.  I want to thank them personally for reminding to pray.  I admit I've been distracted the past couple of weeks as other responsibilities related to not one sparrow and life pressed on me.
