introducing NOS' advisory board
As we head into our second anniversary this weekend, I'm very grateful to be able to introduce not one sparrow's inaugural advisory board to you! It consists of three members, myself included, and I'm honored to call the other two friends and colleagues. They've both proven themselves to be trustworthy and invaluable supporters of not one sparrow's mission and community, who were additionally available and perfectly suited for a governing board. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce to you (drum roll, please!) ...
Denise LaChance - You may already be familiar with Denise, who heads up our companion animal suffering and grief support group. Denise is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, and she lives in Los Angeles with her dogs Mia and Skipper and cat Clara. Last Fall, she lost her beloved dog Ben (pictured), which she wrote about previously.
Denise is a full-time hospital chaplain, and did her residency training at UCLA Medical Center. She has also been ordained by the Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Monrovia, and is currently a member of the Westside Vineyard Christian Fellowship in L.A., where she moderates a (human) grief support group. We set up a personal page for Denise which includes contact information, a photo slideshow with her pets, and more of her background related to animals.
Scott Williams - Perhaps you'll also recognize Scott's name from recent posts. Scott is also a Fuller graduate with an MDiv, and recently launched the creation care effort Creation Hope, which he directs. Scott lives outside Los Angeles with his wife Lauren, two-year old daughter Lena and a beagle named Poncho. They are active members of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Costa Mesa, where Scott helps tend an organic garden for the needy in the community.
In recent years Scott has "discovered the deep theology of creation care and the hope that exists for God's creation." He's glad to join with not one sparrow and others in exploring "what it means to live in the light of the good news that there is for creation as a result of the work of Jesus Christ" (Creation Hope). Scott's personal page includes contact informaion and a photo slideshow with his family and Poncho, as well as a reflection on his changing relationship to the animals we eat.
I can't thank you enough, Denise and Scott, for the many hours you've already spent with me behind the scenes, and for your willingness to support not one sparrow through serving on our advisory board. Please join with me in welcoming them!
I'd also like to take the opportunity to once again thank Jessica Stackhouse, who continues to serve as a financial accountability partner for not one sparrow through this transition period, and has been faithful friend and advisor.
