the butterfly song
A few months ago my church was kind enough to let me share about my work with not one sparrow. And because it was a family night I asked my wife Cheryl, a childhood educator and caretaker, if she could host a few activities for the kids. We set up a scavenger hunt of sorts to see how many animals they could identify in artwork or real life around the building, and found a list of animals in the Bible to compare to if time allowed, in addition to a couple of fun word search puzzles.
Cheryl also discovered a great children's song by Christian songwriter Brian M. Howard, called "The Butterfly Song." It has a great message of thanking God for who He made us to be, in part by imagining how we would thank God if we were different animals such as a butterfly, kangaroo, octopus or even a worm! You can hear it sung by children in this video:
If I were a butterfly
I'd thank you Lord for giving me wings
If I were a robin in a tree
I'd thank you Lord that I could sing ...
I hope you have an opportunity to share this song with your children at home or at church. You can find the full lyrics at Howard's website, as well as licensing information for church use. And thank you to family friend Marleen Blom of Deurne, the Netherlands for sharing the following beautiful photos of butterflies!
