the birds of the air

The following meaningful devotional comes from Scott Williams, who recently launched a creation care effort called Creation Hope.  Scott posts a weekly reflection in a Green Verses series, which "highlight(s) scriptures that point to God as the Creator, His sovereignty over the earth, His redemption of the earth, and our call to participate in that redemption."  This one, on Matthew 6:26, caught my attention especially:

confessions of a reluctant birder

This is a beautifully written and poignantly made case for making a special effort to pay attention to the birds which seem to, sometimes elusively and often eclectically, cohabit our immediate world.  I'm very grateful to Kendra Langdon Juskus, managing editor for creation care group Flourish and their excellent blog, for sharing "Confessions of a Reluctant Birder":

This past Saturday, May 16th, not one sparrow turned one year old.  As alluded to in a recent blog post, anniversaries are often special to me, and this one was especially so.  When I think of all the ups and downs of the past year, I'm grateful not one sparrow survived some difficult circumstances. Launching and maintaining an animal advocacy effort in the Christian community was going to be a stretch in the best of times, and Lord knows this year has been far from that.  Maybe some of you can relate.
