local puppy mill busts
With much attention being focused on the deplorable puppy mill industry in recent months, including a recent special investigation on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I thought I should mention a nearby friend whose efforts are addressing the problem in a very practical way.
Just across the stateline in Lake County, Illinois a puppy mill breeder and hoarder of cocker spaniels was found to be keeping six dogs in a disgusting state in a barn. Sandy Kamen Wisniewski of Animal Education and Rescue took the dogs in and cleaned them up along with other volunteers (see picture), and she is currently in need of help to continue to care for the dogs and provide them with veterinarian treatment until they can be placed for adoption (see update). AEAR recently took in additional dogs from another puppy mill bust in next-door Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin (see news report).
